Former port goods station
The use of the Krasta station is changed from a communication building / station to an office building. The project addresses the building’s openness to the public and aims to strengthen the station building as the new landmark of Andrejosta.
The station is a free-standing building that is not currently part of the surrounding structure of the location.
The new detailed plan of Andrejsala plans to include the station building in unified building complex.
It is planned to keep the building in its original appearance. The former skylights are restored, maintaining the original shape of the roof.
New entrances are created in the existing window frames, extending them to the ground floor level. New entrances provide a direct connection between the historical areas of the port and provides an opportunity to create a pleasant area for pedestrians, separated from the busy Andrejostas Street.
The central part of the building is intended as a block of exhibition space with the possibility to transform it into a group of additional office premises. The central part can be used both internally for the needs of the office workers and opened to the general public as an exhibition space or as an educational center of Andrejsala.
From a closed, industrial building, Krasta Station is being turned into a multifunctional center open to the public. Offices are organized in the northern and southern parts of the building, but the central part serves as a transformable space.
In the future, Krasta station will create a placeholder that will clearly remind of the importance of the Andrejsala railway port in the city of Riga and the industrial history of the building in the new development.
