Summer house in Apšuciems
The concept of the building's site and landscape solutions have been created in harmony with the natural elements on the plot - the dunes, the existing trees and the natural forest ground cover in the dune area. The existing dune in the yard has been preserved. The areas of the dune that erode are fortified and a flatter slope is created. The fortified part of the slope is overgrown with decorative greenery typical to the forest environment - heather, low grasses, etc. The rest of the dune is preserved with the existing, natural forest ground cover.
The main means of expression in the architecture of the designed building is symmetry. It is clearly readable both in the composition of the facades and the layout. The contour of the external walls of the building is designed as a square with an area of ~ 100 m2, in which there are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room and an auxiliary room. The building is surrounded by a terrace, which is protected from rain and sun by a column-based roof overhang. The terrace is designed so that it is not only a functional part of the building, but also serves as a landscaping element - it is at a suitable height to be easily used as a bench and resting place.
The materiality of the building is adapted to the surrounding environment - the roofing is made of wood shingles, but the façade is finished with a composition of horizontal and vertical wooden boards.
Stylistically, the building has been designed by combining the architectural elements of the seaside historic houses with the design typical to modern architecture, creating an environment-friendly and harmonious living space.
